━ COMMON QUESTIONS

TUMBLING FAQS.

Tumbling classes can feel like a big commitment — especially if your athlete has never set foot on a gym floor before. We get it. Below are the questions we hear most from parents and athletes before their first class at Element4. If you don't see your question here, reach out directly at info@element4athletics.com — Coach Sarina or Coach Natalie will get back to you personally. No automated responses, no runaround. Just two coaches who genuinely want to help you figure out if this is the right fit for your family.

What age can my child start tumbling?

We welcome athletes starting as young as crawling age through our Mommy & Me class. Formal tumbling classes begin around age 3–4 in our Beginner program. There's no upper age limit — our Adult Tumble class is open to adults 18+ of any experience level.

If you're unsure, just contact us. We'll ask a few questions about your athlete's current skills and help you determine the best starting point. You can also watch the skills list for each level above — if your athlete has most of the skills in one level, they're ready for the next. We'd rather place an athlete one level lower and let them gain confidence than push them too fast.

This varies significantly by athlete — body strength, flexibility, fear level, and how often they practice all factor in. On average, athletes with solid foundational skills who attend class consistently typically achieve their back handspring within 2–6 months. Our two-surface training method (air floor then spring floor) specifically accelerates this timeline by removing fear as a barrier.

Absolutely not. Tumbling classes at Element4 are open to all athletes — cheerleaders, gymnasts, dancers, football players, martial artists, and anyone else who wants to learn. The skills are universal and the benefits (strength, flexibility, body awareness, confidence) transfer to every sport.

What should my child wear to tumbling class?

Fitted athletic wear is best — leggings or athletic shorts and a fitted top. Avoid loose or baggy clothing as it can interfere with coaches spotting. Tumbling is done barefoot or in cheer shoes. No jeans, zippers, or jewelry. Hair should be pulled back securely.

Safety is our highest priority. Our two-surface training system (air floor for learning, spring floor for performance) is specifically designed to reduce injury risk. All coaches are CPR/First Aid certified and background checked. We maintain strict student-to-coach ratios and use proper spotting for all skills. Skill progression is methodical and never rushed — we do not push athletes to attempt skills they aren't ready for.

Yes — and we've designed a class specifically for them. Adult bodies respond differently than children's, and our Adult Tumble class accounts for that with appropriate progressions, flexibility work, and an encouraging environment. We have adults in their 20s, 30s, and 40s successfully learning new skills every week. It takes slightly longer than it does for kids, but it's absolutely achievable — and incredibly rewarding.

All recreational tumbling classes are $85 per month for one one-hour class per week. This includes coaching, use of all equipment (spring floor, air floor, mats), and access to open gym during class hours. There is no additional equipment fee. A drop-in rate of $25 per class is available for those not ready to commit monthly. Private lessons are priced separately — contact us for current rates.
